Well, far too hot to do any cooking today, or anything at all really, but it was cooler earlier in the week & I made the last of our homegrown SanRosa plums into some delish Spiced Plum Jam.  Was wonderful on pikelets.  I found the recipe online & I made it in the microwave.. easy!  I found in my experiments, that unless you like a tart jam, it is best to take the time to peel your plums before cooking.

The recipe (at food.com) used a blend of Gingerbread Spices that are mixed separately & can be used in cakes, biscuits or your coffee too:

In a small jar mix together:

  • 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons  ground Ginger
  • 1 Tablespoon Allspice
  • 1 Tablespoon Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon ground Cloves

If anybody actually reads my blog & wants the jam recipe, leave a comment & I will post it.

I also made some of my mini beetroot (which never tend to be mini) into beetroot chutney. We had it with cold meat & salad last night & was really lovely.  I got the recipe from Aunt Daisy’s cookbook. Very easy to make.
